Attakwas was the first real test of 2019, providing the team with a chance to test their legs after spending December focused on training.
The race started flat out, as can be expected with such a deep field of top riders. All 3 Insect Science riders had a good start, managing to avoid any difficulties and stay with the front bunch. About 20km in Keagan crashed and broke his fork lockout. He managed to catch up to the front group again, but then punctured multiple times which forced him to abandon the race at the last tech/feed zone. It was a disappointing end to his first race of the season.
Alan and CP had steady rides without any mechanicals whilst navigating the muddy course between Oudshoorn and Groot-Brak. CP eventually finished in 19th, closely followed by Alan in 21st.
